26. Diana Wynne Jones - The Chronicles of Chrestomanci, Volume 1 - I will admit that I picked this book up in the used section of my local B&N only because it had a cat on the cover. Probably not the best way to choose a book, but in this case I did good. The book is actually two stories: Charmed Life and The Lives of Christopher Chant. The focus of this book in on the enchanter who holds the title of Chrestomanci. This is a person who has nine lives and has enough power to regulate magical affairs of the Related Worlds. Basically, he's like the magical "police chief." In this volume, the first story focuses on Eric Chant, one of these special enchanters, while the second focuses on another, Christopher Chant. The stories are easy reads and rather enjoyable. I recommend this book.
