9. Rachel Caine - Ill Wind, Weather Warden Book I

Honestly, I chose this book because all my paperbacks are pretty much packed so I turned to my husband and said "you got a book I can read?" He handed me this one and said "it's a chick book so you'll like it more than me."

The story is about Joanne Baldwin who is a Weather Warden. What most people don't know is that if the weather is left up to itself, it would destroy the planet (she uses the example of the extinction of the dinasours since they "didn't have Weather Wardens"). These Weather Wardens have special talents to control the weather and are employed to keep the weather under control. In Joanne's case, things are not so simple. She has been accused of killing another Wardon, a famous and powerful one at that, and holds a Demon Mark which isn't a good thing. She can't turn herself in because she'll get the equivilant of a magical lombotomy so she's on the run, hoping to find her friend and fellow Warden, Lewis. He had stolen three djinns, powerful creatures who aid the Wardens in their control of the weather, since only a djinn can remove the Mark. That isn't an easy task either because Lewis is on the run as well because of the stolen djinn. To make matters more interesting, not only are the Wardens after her for killing one of their own, but a powerful storm she created is following her, and some invisible enemy is trying to kill her before she reaches Lewis.

The book is a lot of fun. Not the best of reads but there is a lot of interesting content and the writer does keep me interested. I don't know if I'll read her other books but overall it wasn't a bad book.
