18. Marion Zimmer Bradley - Ghostlight

Meet Truth Jourdemayne: a very rational, analytical woman who is nothing like her father. Thorne Blackburn was a leading figure of the occult during the 1960's and was Truth's father. Back in 1969 at an estate known as Shadow's Gate in Upstate New York, something went terribly wrong during one of his rituals. Truth's mother died of a supposed drug overdose and Blackburn mysteriously disappeared without a trace. Twenty-six years later, Truth decides to finally seek out the truth about her father and what really happened that night in 1969. In order to do so, she needs to return to Shadow's Gate and finds the old estate occupied by Julian Pilgrim and his Circle who are trying to recreate what Blackburn had originally intended in his last ritual. It is in this house that Truth needs to find the truth and in the process learns a lot more than she could have ever expected, or wanted.

This book was pretty good, but it didn't hold up to the standards I was used to with her Mists of Avalon series. MZB had a ghost co-author to this book (or "collaberator" depending on who you talk to), Rosemary Edghill, and I think that tended to taint this book a bit. Don't get me wrong...the book is good in its own right and I do recommend it, but you can tell that the ideas and the main storyline was all MZB but the writting was done, at least partially (in my opinion), by Edghill. Then again, this book was written toward the end of MZB's life and it wouldn't surprise me if she wasn't able to write the book on her own.
