46. Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman - Dragons of Autumn Twilight (Dragonlance Chronicals, Vol. 1)

"Lifelong friends, they went their separate ways. Now they are together again, though each holds secrets from the others in his heart. They speak of a world shadowed with rumors of war. They speak of tales of strange monsters, creatures of myth, creatures of legend. They do not speak of their secrets. Not then. Not until a chance encounter with a beautiful, sorrowful woman, who bears a magical crystal staff, draws the companions deeper into the shadows, forever changing their lives and shaping the fate of the world.

No one expected them to be heroes.

Least of all, them.." - Book Description

This is the story of a group of adventurers. Tanis is a half-elf, who is their leader. Sturm Brightblade, a Knight of Solamnia, is the honorable warrior. Raistlin is the powerful but physically weak mage with hourglass-shaped eyes. Caramon, Raistlin's twin, is a big oaf of a warrior. Flint is the old dwarven fighter. And of course there is Tasselhoff, a kender, who joins along for the thrill of adventure and travel and is probably my favorite character of them all. All are returning home after being separated on their own adventures for five years. However, when they return to Solace. When they get there they find that things have changed. New religious figures are dominating the town in a fog of fear. War soon breaks out when draconians from the north attack, throwing the adventurers into a run for their lives.

I had come across this series a long time ago but never read it. This time, I finally picked up a copy and I was pleasantly surprised. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
