52. Laurell K. Hamilton - A Caress of Twilight
This is the second book of the series revolving around Merry Gentry, Princess of the Unseelie Court and private detective on the side. In the first book, Merry is allowed back into the Unseelie Court as a coheir to the throne with her cousin, Prince Cel. Whoever bears a child first would win the throne, so Merry is busy with her court guards trying to conceive. While all this is going on, mass murders are taking place throughout the LA area, which are reeking with faerie power. Merry needs to find out who is behind these mass killings and why.
Honestly, I enjoyed the first book better. In this one, Merry's role as royal baby factory seems to be 90% of the book while the real interesting stuff (the mass murders) seem to take a side step. It's like Hamiliton wanted to write a book with lots of sex and struggled to give it an interesting plot. If I wanted something like that, I would just pick up a cheap bodice ripper at the local B&N. Hopefully, the third book in the series (which is due out in Feb 2004) will be more like the first or else I'll be pissed about spending $25 on a hardcover book that wasn't worth it.
