48. Mary Janice Davidson - Undead and Unwed
I was in the mood for some romance and comedy and this book was perfect for both.
Betsy Taylor, a former beauty queen and model, was now a former secretary as well. She had just been fired from her job and her day was about to get worse. While trying to catch her runaway cat, she is hit by an SUV and killed. To make matters worse, she wakes up a couple of days later in a coffin wearing a hideous pink suit and cheap shoes. A little bewildered by her predicament, she knows she's dead but can't figure out why she's able to move around. After many failed attempts to re-kill herself, she discovers that she's a vampire which wasn't the most appealing thing to her (drinking blood? Ick!). However, she is not going to let this little predicament bother her and tries to resume her life, but first she needs to rescue her designer shoe collection from her step-monster...um...mother.
What she doesn't realize is that she is not like the normal vampire. Sunlight doesn't bother her, she can walk into a church and wear a cross without any problems, and she doesn't need to feed nearly as often (thankfully! Ick!). She is kidnapped by the supposed "head" vampire who looked like something out of a really cheap B horror movie, bad tux and all, who wants her to join his side but she refuses. That's when she comes across the tall, dark, and handsome vampire named Eric Sinclair who recognizes her for what she really is: the prophesized Queen of Vampires. But before she can claim her title, she must get rid of the enemy, preferably with a nice pair of Pradas on her feet.
This book was hysterical! I was rolling on the floor laughing at some of the scenes Davidson described. My all time favorite was when she put her stepmonster's jewelry into the blender and hit "liquify." It was great! I highly recommend this book if not for the romance value, then definitely for the laughs.
