36. Charlaine Harris - Dead Until Dark

I've been reading like a madwoman lately, considering school is in full swing and I have tons of homework to do. :)

This book was a real pleasant surprise. It was recommended to me since I am a big fan of Laurell K. Hamilton and Tanya Huff. At first, I wasn't too thrilled about reading about a southern vampire story. Being from the northeast, I have a bit of a problem with the drawl and sometimes just the whole presence of a southern-story line. I don't know why as it's kind of silly. Even still, I picked up the book and I loved it. The protagonist is Sookie Stackhouse, who is a cocktail waitress in a small-town in Louisiana, who has what she calls a small "disability:" she can read minds. She finally meets the man of her dreams (namely someone whose mind she can't read) in Bill, a vampire. However, a bunch of murders are committed in the small town of Bon Temps where the victims are all women who dated vampires so Sookie begins to wonder if she's next. It's an easy and enjoyable read and I really do recommend it.
