37. Jeanne Kalogridis - Covenant with the Vampire

This series takes place about 50 years before Bram Stoker's Dracula. It's the story about Arkady Tsepesh, who is called to return to his Transylvanian home from England after his father passes away to take care of the estate of his great uncle, Prince Vlad. Over the course of time, Arkady learns that his great uncle is not who he seems to be. The old man, he discovers, is actually Vlad the Impaler, the first Dracul, not the descendant of him as Arkady first believe. He also discovers the superstitions of the surrounding area are true and that Vlad is a vampire and that his family is bound by a centuries long covenant to serve this monster. The book is written in the viewpoint of the diaries of three different family members. At first, it made this a bit harder to get into but I was hooked after the first fifty pages. It's a good book and I'm looking forward to reading the next two books in the series.
