39. Gabriel King - Wild Road
I needed a break from the vampire books for a bit so I picked up this Watership Downs-type story as a bit of a pick me up.
The story is about a cat named Tag, who started out life innocently as a kitten who was brought home from a pet store. As he was soon to discover, Tag's future was much more complicated than eating cat food and chasing after bubbles. As he found out from the mysterious and very old cat, Majicou, he is destined to replace the elder cat as keeper of the "wild roads," invisible roads that the cats have travelled for millenia. His first duty was to find the King and Queen of cats and get them to a place called Tintagel before the spring equinox or else everything in the known world would fall apart. However, as there always must be some evil-doer that is trying to stop the protagonist of every book, the Alchemist is trying to kidnap the Queen for hope that she gives birth to the Golden Cat, a source of power and understanding of the ways of the "Wild Roads."
I personally really liked this book. Ok, being a cat lover does bias me but it is definitely well written and the book kept me on the edge of my seat. It is written in British English so the writing style was a little hard for me to get through at first but it was still enjoyable. I highly recommend it.
